Brinjal, or solanum melongena (solanaceae), also known as aubergine, eggplant or baingan in the subcontinent, is a dark purple, fleshy vegetable with slightly bitter, soft seeds. The lilac flower (edible) has five fused petals and bright yellow stamens; known to possess excellent medicinal properties like the vegetable itself.
