Gulistan Colony is a picturesque and quiet neighbourhood located within the limits of Rawalpindi Cantt, a well known and upmarket part of the city. It was established in the 1980s and is conveniently located with easy access to Islamabad and Islamabad Airport.

Primarily a residential area, Gulistan Colony has plenty of winding, tree-lined roads and avenues; many of the houses display contemporary architecture with manicured lawns, or sprawling ivy at the very least.

Gulistan Colony has a small commercial pocket, referred to as the ‘market’. With several grocery stores, beauty salons and retail outlets, it more than fulfils residents’ basic needs. For more upmarket shopping, Cosmo, a large hypermarket, is a five-minute drive away. Several small eateries are also located at the market, of which Chick n’ Cheese is the most popular. Given the fact that it is a quiet neighbourhood, recreational activities are limited. However, the presence of several parks and entertainment avenues in proximity more than make up for this.

The adjacent Ayub National Park gives residents a chance to enjoy 2,300 acres of open green spaces and fresh air; boat rides and fishing sessions on the lake in the Park attract many people, while the jogging track, which winds around the Park, serves to boost adrenalin levels for the health-conscious. There is plenty for children to do there as well. The aquarium and Jungle Kingdom Theme Parkoffer a mini zoo and rides.

Next door is Play Land, with similar activities on a much grander scale. The Garden Restaurant in National Park serves desi food; it is the perfect setting for a relaxing evening of al fresco barbeque.

Also close to Gulistan Colony is the Rawalpindi Golf Club and Jinnah Park, the latter of which, in addition to the park itself, boasts of a popular and a busy cineplex. There are also several eateries there including McDonald’s, and the Italian restaurant, Papa Salli’s.

The proximity to a vast number of recreational and dining spots, the serenity, scenic setting and security, all add up to make Gulistan Colony a desirable residential area. As one resident describes it, “It’s a beautiful area and a lovely place to live in. Entertainment and recreational activities are within easy access. It has everything my family and I need.”
