3rdFlavoured water is suddenly all the rage, and providing that you make it yourself, it is the perfect way to chill out the healthy way, especially during summer.

Unlike commercially manufactured flavoured water which contains chemicals, the homemade version is absolutely pure and packed full of natural pow!

The most powerful ingredient of this great alternative to manufactured cold drinks is the water itself. The various fruit and herbs used to flavour it also have limited benefits, but water is the main winner here.

What makes flavoured water so very special is that, unlike plain water, connoisseurs just cannot get enough!

Take the clean, fresh, sharp taste of lemon, grapefruit or orange flavoured water zapped to a zing by the ‘yumilicious’ addition of green mint or (this is definitely addictive) minted mango with a dash of vibrant lime. Earthy pomegranate water has a delicately invigorating attraction all of its own, and lightly perfumed guava water, treated to a couple of leaves of aromatic basil, is an unbelievable delight while refreshing cucumber water is an excellent base for just about anything your taste buds suggest.

Making your own flavoured water is simple. All you need to do is add your chosen fresh fruit, herbs or a combination of both to a jug of water (make sure to slice or chop the ingredients to encourage the flavours to come through), cover, refrigerate for at least 30 minutes and then enjoy! Only a small amount of fruit and herbs are required to flavour one litre of water; one to two sliced lemons for example, skin included, are adequate to create a wonderfully fresh drink.

Other zingy ideas include: kiwi, strawberry, citrus or whatever fruit happens to be in season.
