A few years ago, Bukhari Commercial Area (BCA) just had a few buildings to its credit along with a grocery store and a chai khana. Since then, it has rapidly developed into one of DHA’s more upscale commercial areas by virtue of the brands and boutiques located here, and is an ideal place to shop and stop for a bite.
Going natural, eating organic… BCA has the distinction of hosting N’eco’s Natural Store & Café, Karachi’s first organic food restaurant and natural products store. The all day breakfast is particularly popular, thanks to specialities like French toast and free range eggs, as well as several mouth-watering desserts. If you are the ‘eco-friendly kind’ the natural products store in the basement is well worth a visit.
Furniture and interior design… Looking to spruce up your house before Eid? BCA is a hub of high-end furniture and interior decor. In addition to architectural and interior design firms, several furniture designers and manufacturers have opened their flagship stores there. Designer brands such as Baroque, Renaissance and Charcoal offer a wide range of interior decorating and design solutions – from bespoke sofas to exotic wall and floor coverings. Interwood (a furniture brand) also has its multi-storeyed flagship store; other brands located in BCA include Y’oca and Design Loft 37.
Beauty and fashion… One of BCA’s major crowd pullers includes Oxygen spa; with a zen inspired interior and soothing fountains, Oxgyen’s massage menu is sure to relax those stiff muscles. Bina Khan Salon – one of Karachi’s favourites for bridal makeup – is also located there and boasts of a warm and friendly ambience and an array of salon services. Remember, if you are getting married during peak season it is best to get an appointment well in advance. Meanwhile, fashion designer Sania Maskatiya’s (who dressed Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy for the Oscars) boutique sees a steady stream of clientele all day, and will probably be a good place to start if you’re looking for that perfect Eid outfit.
In a nutshell… In many ways, Bukhari Commercial Area is an ideal place to visit during Ramazan and the last few days before Eid. And best of all, it is not plagued by congestion and so far there is plenty of parking.
