Real LeadDue to a shortage of large plots of vacant land in the metropolitan cities of Pakistan, several agricultural, residential and industrial developments are being established along the country’s primary highways. Plots available there vary in size, ranging between one and 100 acres. They are, however, good investment opportunities and some are sold at subsidised rates.

Here are four highways in Pakistan where large plots are available:

1. Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway (M-1) links Islamabad to Peshawar and further to Afghanistan. Plots are suitable for agricultural purposes (due to proximity to cold storage facilities and vegetable markets) and industrial use (due to proximity to Peshawar Dry Port, a railway station and airport.)
Facilities include: Canal irrigation systems, drainage systems, electricity, gas, sewerage and water.
Plot sizes range between: 10 and 500 acres.
Purchase price range: Rs 0.2-1.5 million per acre.

2. Multan Road connects Lahore to Multan. Plots are suitable for agricultural, industrial and residential development. Proximity to major urban markets, dry ports and railway stations are an added advantage.
Facilities include: Drainage systems, electricity, water and warehouses.
Plot sizes range between: Five and 100 acres.
Purchase price range: Rs 0.5-2 million per acre.

3. Murree Expressway extends from Rawalpindi and Islamabad to Murree. Several tourist attractions (including Bara Kahu and Chattar Park) are located on the way. Plots are ideal for developing hotels, resorts and other recreational avenues.
Facilities include: Electricity, drainage systems and water.
Available plot sizes: One to 50 acres.
Purchase price range: Rs 0.5-2 million per acre.

4. Northern Bypass (M-10) extends from M-9 Motorway to Estate Avenue. Plots are ideal for industrial, residential and recreational (farmhouse) development, as well as warehousing due to proximity to the dry port.
Facilities include: Electricity, gas, sewerage and water.
Plot sizes range between: One and 100 acres.
Purchase price range: Rs 1.5-5 million per acre.
