Intersecting with some of Lahore’s most ‘happening’ thoroughfares, including MM Alam Road and Main Boulevard, Ghalib Road is developing into a fashionable district in its own right. From baubles to – literally – the kitchen sink, there is very little one cannot find along this road that stretches from Ghalib Market to Zahoor Elahi Chowk in upscale Gulberg 3.
Something for the home… Ghalib Road is the go-to place for the house proud who can find all manner of homeware there – from furniture and fittings to fixtures and accessories. You will find ornate, handcrafted furniture and opulent home accessories at Ahad Home Signature and Hena Khan Furniture and Accessories. You can also browse through the extensive display of kitchen fixtures, fittings and equipment at Kupperbusch Teka Pakistan. For a contemporary style check out Habitt; this five-storey home store offers interesting and affordable glassware, tableware and accessories. For Egyptian cotton bed sheets and soft towels make Chen One your destination of choice.
Something to satisfy your curiosity… When in the mood to indulge yourself, visit The Old Curiosity Shop. This store is filled with unusual items for the home that you may not need but will certainly want to have. The clocks and Moroccan handicrafts are particularly enticing. Or perhaps you fancy a jewellery box decorated with cherubs?
Something for the fashionistas… There is a good selection of boutiques on Ghalib Road; these range from the hip outfits at Beech Tree and Calzoom to more haute fashion at L’Atelier, a multibrand prêt wear boutique. There are several salons nearby, and if you take ‘looking good’ seriously, there are also a few cosmetic clinics.
Something for the taste buds… When craving coffee and dessert head to Masoom’s Bakery, a popular hangout for the younger set. For a local flavour sample the fare at Clifton Tikka, Fish Corner and Best Samosa. Maisonette Hotel’s rooftop restaurant Nauratan offers various kinds of cuisine – all complemented with a spectacular view of the Lahore skyline.
In a nutshell… Centrally located in proximity to Lahore’s busy shopping districts, Ghalib Road is slowly turning from a residential area with rambling old houses into a new, fashionable commercial district.
