The lake in Ayub Park is shaded by acacia nilotica trees
Inside the park… Ayub National Park is well worth a visit, especially at this time of the year. Paths meander through lush green lawns, aflame with flowers of every possible colour; many lead to the artificial lake, which is partially shaded by acacia nilotica trees. Boat rides are a popular activity; families also have barbeques by the lakeside, or take a leisurely stroll.
Fun and food… One of the Park’s primary attractions is Jungle World – a zoo – where hundreds of birds and animals can be viewed. The Fun Zone is equally popular with a wide variety of attractions, including a Ferris wheel, haunted house, whirling teacups and a skating rink. Although several food stalls dot the Park, it is Relish Restaurant, located within a garden that is the main foodie attraction. Menu highlights include chicken and mutton karahis and handis.
Out and about… Gulistan Colony, one of Rawalpindi’s oldest and most upscale areas, is adjacent to Ayub Park. It was established in the 1980s, and is a well-planned neighbourhood, with wide, tree-lined roads with houses built on large plots. Gulistan Colony has a small commercial pocket, where several grocery stores, retail outlets and beauty salons have established their presence. In addition to Ayub Park, several recreational avenues are located nearby and include the Jinnah Park and Rawalpindi Golf Club.
The real estate take… Property prices in Gulistan Colony have increased by 10 to 15%, and rentals by 10% in the last three years. Eighty percent is built-up, and vacant plots are available; their prices have increased by 10% in the least three years. Property is in high demand because Gulistan Colony is relatively safe, has an adequate number of recreational avenues, and is easily accessible via GT Road.
In a nutshell… With rambling houses and tree-lined roads, not to mention several tranquil parks, this part of Rawalpindi is perhaps the city’s most serene.
