Hayatabad is one of Peshawar’s largest and most upscale suburban areas. It was established in the 1970s, and is located at the southwest periphery of the city, easily accessible via the Grand Trunk Road.
An affluent neighbourhood… Hatayabad is home to a significant number of expatriates, as well as people belonging to several ethnic communities including Afghans, Chitralis, Hindkowans and Pakhtuns. The area boasts of rambling houses with porches and manicured lawns, and wide, tree-lined roads. If you are considering moving to this neighbourhood, keep in mind that reputed schools, hospitals and banks have a presence there.
Shop till you drop… More than 20 commercial pockets, including the popular Khattak, Lalazar and Yousafzai Markets dot Hayatabad; shops offer everything under the sun, from groceries, stationery items and fabrics to high-end designer clothing. A stone’s throw away is the renowned Karkhano Market, frequented by customers from all over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The market offers bargains on clothes, footwear, electronic appliances and home accessories. If you are a foodie, several of Peshawar’s well-known eateries including Marco Polo, Mr Chef and Spring Rose Restaurant are located there.
The fabulous five… Five landscaped parks – Baagh-e-Naaran, Khyber, Shalman, Tatara (which has a Ferris Wheel and rides for children) and Ghani Bagh Park (where only women are allowed) – make up the green spaces in Hayatabad. These parks are the go-to place for a quick morning jog, or for a late evening picnic.
The real estate take… Hayatabad is one of Peshawar’s most expensive suburbs. It consists of seven phases; phases one, two, three and four are completely built-up while phases five, six and seven offer vacant plots and houses. Property prices and rental yields appreciate by an estimated 20 and 33% respectively every year.
In a nutshell… Hayatabad is one of Peshawar’s most sought-after residential areas due to the serenity it exudes, as well the presence of plenty of shopping and recreational spots – all far removed from the urban sprawl.
