H 1Dave Asprey, an entrepreneur based in Silicon Valley, drank       yak-buttered tea while travelling high up in the mountains of Tibet, and found himself instantly rejuvenated by it. This led him to experiment with coffee, and he created ‘Bulletproof Coffee’which he claims can lead to weight loss and improved brain function.

Despite its name, Bulletproof Coffee does not require bullets of any form – just a knob of butter (preferably grass-fed) or ghee in your coffee which should be brewed from beans, with a teaspoon of medium chain triglycerides (MCT) oil (such as coconut oil).

Thanks to the caffeine it contains, Bulletproof Coffee will keep you alert and awake and due to the presence of grass-fed butter it will also provide your body with a significant amount of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids first thing in the morning. The former is believed to be essential for the body’s metabolism, while research indicates that the latter can prevent chronic inflammation, as well as a host of diseases including asthma, arthritis, eczema, diabetes and even cancer.

Meanwhile, MCT oils are believed to reduce the amount of adipose tissue (fat) in your body; they contain saturated fat, which helps keep your heart healthy and provide your brain cells the energy they need to function optimally.

Furthermore, after being consumed, MCT oils are converted to monolaurin, an anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-protozoan agent that is believed to promote weight loss and boost the immune system.

However, do keep in mind that an average cup of Bulletproof Coffee has up to 450 calories; and while it has gained popularity worldwide, especially among proponents of the Paleo Diet, no significant research has been conducted to prove that it can, in actuality, reduce your weight.

Therefore, have a few cups every week, but watch what you eat for the rest of the day, and remember, there is nothing like exercise and eating properly to reduce weight!
